Turquoise and It’s Amazing History!

Turquoise is one of the oldest stones on Earth! It was discovered and mined in Egypt around 6000 BC. It has also been cherished and used in jewelry for thousands of years. The Egyptians would bury fine pieces with mummies, the Aztecs used it in their masks, the Native Americans today produce beautiful pieces like silver belt buckles, rings and bracelets. Tibetan turquoise is mined in the Himalayas and has almost the perfect balance of blue/green color! It is very unique in it’s patterns and is highly sought after. Tibetan Villagers use it to decorate their homes, musical instruments and bells. I am sure most of you have been fortunate enough to see a unique piece of this stone over the years!

Did you know that besides it’s well known beautiful color of sky blue, turquoise also comes in many other shades? It can also be found in greenish blue, pale green, or even vivid grass green. The color depends on the amount of iron or copper that it contains. Higher amounts of iron bring greens and yellows to the turquoise and copper brings blue shades. One of the most valuable and rare types of turquoise is known as Sleeping Beauty. The gorgeous shade of “Robin’s Egg” blue makes this turquoise memorable. This turquoise got it’s name from the mountain it was mined in which is said to resemble a sleeping woman lying on her back with her arms crossed. The mine is located in Arizona and has been closed down for years, making the stone rare as the rough becomes harder to find on the market.

Besides all the cool facts regarding its age color and beauty, we also have the wonderful energy that turquoise brings us! Mother Nature sure knows how to take care of us, and our ancestors proved that, having used it in art and ceremonies. It is also used in energy balancing and particularly our throat chakra.  If placed on your solar plexus chakra it is known to help empower the whole body! Turquoise may be used to help calm someone who finds themselves in hysteria. In particular, it may assist you when you are feeling jet lagged and ease fears of flying. As is helps to balance and open the throat chakra, it is a great stone to work with when you wish to speak your truth. A person may use this beautiful gemstone as an amulet to aid in protection from being bullied.

Turquoise is the birthstone for December and is linked to the Zodiac signs of Sagittarius, Scorpio and Aquarius! Lovers would give turquoise to their partners as a sign of fidelity and protectiveness. Turquoise is known to empower both men and women equally. It symbolizes both wisdom and success. It has been carried for many years as a talisman to bring forth good luck and immortality in some cultures. Turquoise, undoubtedly, is a stone of justice and brings fair dealings to all those who choose to work with it’s mysterious energy! When you obtain a piece for yourself, hold it for a few moments in your hand to connect and transfer the ancient energy to you.. You may even feel some deep knowledge from past ancestors!
